We all know how popular soccer is. The sport which is played in more than two hundred countries and dependencies has been in existence since the 18th century.

Soccer has earned the nicknames ‘The Beautiful Game’ and ‘The World’s Game’. The sport has a lot of influence to most people in the world.
Despite the extensive knowledge that you may have about this game, you may not have the knowledge of the world’s oldest soccer stadiums.

Below is a list of 5 of the oldest soccer stadiums, the very first stadiums to be opened.

5. Stamford Bridge (1877)

Number 5 on the list is the home ground of Chelsea F.C.. Stamford Bridge was opened 139 years ago. It is owned by Chelsea Pitch Owners and has a capacity of 41,663.

4. Deepdale Stadium (1875)

Deepdale Stadium which was opened in 1875 was initially used for cricket and rugby. The first association football match was held in 1878. The stadium has undergone several renovations with all 4 original stands been replaced with new seated structures.

3. The Racecourse Ground (1864)

The Racecourse Stadium is located in Wrexham, North Wales. The ground was originally used for cricket and horse racing before being used for soccer. Guinness World Records acknowledged the stadium as the oldest soccer stadium that still hosts international matches in the world.

2. Field MillĀ  (1861)

This stadium is also called One Call Stadium and is located in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. The ground is regarded as the oldest in Football league as it has been hosting football since 1861.

1. Bramall Lane (1855)

Bramall Lane Football Stadium is found in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The number one on our list was also opened as a cricket ground 161 years ago. It was the largest stadium in the 19th century and it hosted many of the city’s very significant matches.
